Farewell to Vangelis Pissias

Farewell Vangelis Pissias, one of our Greek comrades who dedicated his life to Palestine. He was instrumental in the Free Gaza Movement’s first sea mission to break the siege on Gaza in August 2008 when two fishing boats defied Israel’s blockade and became the first international vessels to reach the port of Gaza without the Occupier’s permission in more than 40 years.

Vangelis was one of the organizers of the 2010 Freedom Flotilla. He was beaten and taken hostage by Israeli occupation forces when they attacked, killing 10 of our friends and wounding more than 50 others.

He supported many of our initiatives in the subsequent 13 years and even while very sick with cancer he was in touch with us recently – organizing for Palestine was the one thing that kept him going.

Rest in Power comrade. You are with us in spirit as we keep challenging the illegal blockade and will be when we finally reach a free Gaza and a liberated Palestine!
