Vigdis Bjorvand is a 70-year-old activist from Norway whose unwavering commitment to justice has spanned nearly five decades. Since first stepping into activism in 1976, Vigdis has been a steadfast voice for peace, dignity, and human rights.
In Norway, she once ran a second-hand shop — a reflection of her values of sustainability, simplicity, and community care. She first joined the Freedom Flotilla in 2023 aboard Handala, and has since participated in three missions — including Conscience and Madleen — consistently demonstrating courage and solidarity in the face of injustice.
In 2025, Vigdis returned to Handala, this time serving as the cook on board. With heart and care, her meals nourish not only the body but also the spirit of the crew.
A proud and loving grandmother, Vigdis is deeply driven by a sense of responsibility to future generations. She often says she never wants her grandchildren to ask, “Why didn’t you do anything?” Her activism is both a personal and political statement — a living legacy of compassion and resistance.
With her warmth, strength, and tireless spirit, Vigdis is a beloved presence wherever she goes — on land and at sea.
